This is how to be a human being. You just have to believe what Jesus has said about you. He said you shall be a particular kind of person. You shall have no other Gods. He also said that you’re forgiven. Believe that. This is a message about “shalls” (and it’s probably not what you think). This is what a Christian life shall look like.

There's a lot of talk about racism these days. What does the Bible have to say about it? There is good news for you if you listen to wisdom and don't act like a fool, or a victim, or a villain. Be slow to speak, quick to listen, and slow to get angry.

When we walk out the front door of our childhood home, how will we know how to get where we’re going? How do we even decide where we’re supposed to go? Transitions and how to navigate them. The world will tell you otherwise, but this book is sufficient. All the wisdom and hope you will ever need is found here.

Pentecost was weird but it's part of your story now if you're a follower of Jesus. There's a way to live that leads to life and a bunch of ways that lead to death. Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.

What does it mean for you that Jesus ascended to heaven? This is to help you understand what your faith means—the hope that it brings.

What are the biggest obstacles to people believing in Jesus? I think there are two: If God is real then why is there so much pain and suffering in the world? And why do so many Christians act like jerks?

If we actually paid any attention to what Jesus told us, neither of these things would be a problem.

These are some of the ways that God is like a mother. These are some of the ways that a mother is supposed to be like God. But these are also some of the ways we’re all supposed to understand how to treat each other.

For two thousand years the church has been characterized by a lot of different things, some good and some not so good. We are being tested and we must pass this test.

This COVID19 time-out that most people are doing right now is putting a lot of strange pressure on families. The most important gift we can give each other in this bizarro C19 world is to show some grace. This message is a timely look at Cain, Abel, and the importance of confession and absolution.

There might not be a more painful section of the Bible for the church than Romans 13:1-7. How are Christians supposed to respond to a government? What is government supposed to be for? What is government according to the Bible?

The story of two brothers, Jesus goes to the cross and dies. This is the Good Friday sermon.

Apr 15, 2020

A surprising description of one of the most provocative things Jesus ever did. Today we raise our palm branches on this Palm Sunday in defiance of any government that tries to oppress the people of God who are in Christ—in defiance of any evil or power or darkness or fear or virus that tries to crush our hope or steal our joy. We are not afraid. We do not grieve as those without hope, we do not worry like unbelievers.

Behold! We walk through the resurrection accounts and find out that not only is it the story of Jesus rising from the dead—it's your story now, too. Which means there's nothing to be afraid of anymore. That seems like good news.

Today we will consider "Where is God?" and compare the COVID-19 crisis to the worst zombie apocalypse ever. We'll even talk a little about the actual apocalypse and "Revelations." Eden, the Tree of Life and the Tree of death. God always locates His gifts somewhere in particular, and tells us where that is.

Holy is a word that gets a bad rap. We hear “God is holy” and we think that means He’s uptight. Stern. But “Holy” is a beautiful word... a word that’s full of hope and life and grace. God blessed the 7th day and called it holy, He has done the same to you. God's holiness is contagious.

There seems to be two kinds of people in how we react to the Coronavirus. Those who panic, and those who are angry.

How about if you take a little break from scrolling through your bad news feed and confirmation bias hunting, and listen to this message about what it’s supposed to mean to be a Christian—a person of faith—in these uncertain and confusing days of panic and anger.

More mind bending insights from the beginning of the Bible. What is the power of the Gospel? You’ve been given the same authority to go around saying, “Repent. Believe. Follow Jesus. Your sins are forgiven.”

“Trinity, Water & Light” sounds like a utilities power company. Trinity, Water, Light & Power. I think that’s right, because that’s what I’m talking about, power. LET THERE BE LIGHT!

How are Christians supposed to read the Scriptures? The NT is a divinely inspired commentary on the OT. It all point to Jesus—not us. What is the earliest reference to Jesus Christ in the Bible? You might need your mind blown pants for this one.

Everybody's always asking for prayer and saying they'll pray for each other. What's the point? Isn't God going to do what He's going to do anyway? Doesn't He already know what's best for us? Even if we do pray—what if we're doing it wrong? People always say "you best be careful what you pray for." What can we learn from Jesus about prayer? That seems like a good question to me.

Our culture is very confused about what marriage is, when to get married, who can be married, and all kinds of things concerning that whole "one flesh" thing. How about if we take a serious look at what God has told us to find the answers.

The kingdom of heaven is not supposed to be like a country club for members only, with mediocre music and boring TED talks. The kingdom of heaven is like a garden that God planted in the world to feed and delight His children, His Word—the Bible—is like seeds that grow in the hearts and lives of those who listen.

The Bible is the lens that we must look through in order to understand the world around us—life, meaning, hope, and truth. But what lens can we use to understand the Bible? Let God be true but every man a liar.

People think they know what the Bible says. Most don't. Here's a quick overview of the Bible to prepare you for reading through it cover to cover. The Bible isn’t going to do us any good unless we open it. You can find the Bible reading plan at NewChurchTX.com/Bible. A plan called “Bible in a Year.” Use your app, set reminders, keep up with it.

The Freedom of Duty and The Kingdom of God Redux.

We are the Church.
I am the Church.
We are the Body of Christ.
I am the Body of Christ.
If I don't do my part in the Church, I work against Christ.
If we don't do our part in the Church, we work against Christ.
I am responsible to love the Lord with all my mind.
If I love Jesus I will do what He says.
If we love Jesus we will do what He says.
If I do what Jesus says, I will be free.
I we do what Jesus says, we will be free.
The Bible speaks to everything.
I am made like Jesus by His Word.
We are made like Jesus by His Word.
